The quilted jacket is the most-worn coat in the English countryside for a reason: it is warm, it is light, and it does not look like it is trying.
This one has insulated padding stitched in a quilt so the fill stays where it should, a stand collar, a zip front and zipped pockets. Slim enough to go over a shirt or a thin knit without looking puffed up.
It is a mid-season jacket. In real cold it goes under a coat, not instead of one.
Over a sweater to Sunday lunch, over a shirt on a drive up the coast. Five colours, black to khaki. Machine washable.
