The wale gives it depth and a soft hand that flat cotton does not have, and it catches the light differently on every rib. Tailored through the shoulders and waist, with elbow patches, a button front and working pockets.
It runs small — size up. Tailored means close, and corduroy has less give than a knit.
Over a roll-neck to Sunday lunch, or with an open-collar shirt at a gallery on a wet Thursday. It looks better the more it is worn.
